SISU Cycles at Great Bear Chase

There were a few SISU Cycles jerseys flying through the Swedetown trails in Calumet this weekend for the Great Bear Chase ski marathon and half marathon. Friends of Team SISU Duane Palomaki and Jared Koski (pictured below) raced in the 26km freestyle race. Both racers finished in the top 15 overall and brought home 1st place awards for their age division.

Team member Jesse Bell competed in the 51km freestyle race, finishing in 2:23. Bell was deeply disappointed about finishing 15/100ths of a second behind Chocolay Ace arch-nemesis Dave Grant. Grant defeated Bell in three ski marathons this year, but the margin of victory has been steadily declining. With the start of cycling season just around the corner, a reversal of fortune is expected. Despite Grant’s reputation as a wheel-sucker, he has generally been unable to pull around Bell to beat him in a sprint, owing to his exceptionally long torso which creates an enormous frontal projection area.
